When is the right time for cataract surgery?

According to statistics, there are more and more people who suffer from cataracts. However, losing one’s sight is one of the worst things that can happen to someone. Thus, here is a small guide for people who want to know precisely when the right time for having a cataract surgery is. But, first, let’s make a few things clear.

Cataract – what is it more precisely?

A cataract is regarded as a clouding of the eyes’ lens. The doctors say that it should be blamed for many cases of vision loss. Usually, this disease becomes a real problem for people who are over age 40, but this is not a general rule. There are many younger persons who suffer from cataracts too. But, the problem is that when it comes to this aspect, there are a lot of risk factors such as diabetes, smoking, sunlight exposure, alcohol and more.

Clear signs that you need a cataract surgery:

You have a cloudy vision. There are many people who blame the tiredness for this problem. But, sometimes, it is better to ask for a professional opinion. If you see that the quality of your vision is gradually deteriorating, you should not waste any minute. Grab your phone and call your doctor.

Also, there is another clear sign of cataracts: the faded colour perception. Try to make a few tests on your own. Invite a friend to help you figure out if you suffer from this problem. Take some bright colour items and try to describe them. If you find out that your friend says that the colours are brighter, but you see them rather faded, you should ask immediately for a doctor’s help. Doctors have some professional tests that can help you know for sure if the cataract is the real problem or not.

Last but not least, doctors say that the frequent changes of your spectacle perception are also some signs that you suffer from cataracts. There are many people who avoid going to doctor only because they are afraid of the cataract procedure. But, the longer you wait, the more difficult the procedure will be. On the other hand, there are also children who have to confront with cataracts. Thus, parents should take their children to medical checks as to make sure that everything is all right.

What should you know about the treatment?

Unfortunately, there is no treatment for cataracts. The only thing you can do is ask for a surgery. The main role of this surgery is to remove the cloudy lens and replace them with the artificial ones. According to experts, it is the only way to avoid blindness and improve your vision quality. What is more, you should know that the whole procedure is very quickly. It lasts between 15 and 30 minutes. Also, you should not worry because it is a pain-free intervention. The doctors use anaesthetics, as to make sure that you will not feel anything. But, even if anaesthetics are used, you will be awake during the whole procedure. It is also true that, because of anxiety, there are some people who ask for sedation. But, usually, it is not necessary.
